Pelvic Floor and Perifit

Updated: Nov 24

I'm sharing. Although women are more open to discuss our bodies both after having children and as we age the discussion of our pelvic floor is still so frequently not spoken of. There are people out there that still believe that incontinence is a result of age or having children. That it is something that "just happens" to women, I'm here to tell you that it is not. Yes your body will change. Yes you will age. Yes it takes patience. YES you can do something about it. I won’t make a promise that things will go back to the way they were before, because that's a promise that no one should make. However, I will say that you can train those muscles just as you do all of the other muscles in your body, and with time and consistency you will be surprised at what you can achieve.

I have been given the gift of two beautiful little ones. My pregnancies and deliveries were healthy and free of medication. I realize how lucky I am and I am grateful. I know of many friends and family members where this was not the case. Students have told me stories of their pregnancies, deliveries, and recovery. Their experiences are unique to each individual and even more, each baby.

Lets talk. Real talk. No matter your age if you are walking or sitting and especially if you are active you are, in fact, training your pelvic floor. Now not all training is the same. When it comes to recovering from anything you have to take the time to dig deep both mentally and physically, to get down to the foundation of the movement. If you train the body incorrectly then dysfunction occurs.

I'm honestly not huge on devices when it comes to working out, but the pelvic floor is different. You can't see it. You can't look in a mirror and really truly see what is happening inside. When you perform almost any other rehab you have the ability to see what is going on. You also have assistance from guided touch. Your practitioner can help you with feedback from their hands to move properly. When it comes to the pelvic floor you don't have that. Unless of course you are comfortable enough to work with a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist. However, many women are just not comfortable with this. This is where the Perifit comes in.

Perifit is a connected device designed to help women strengthen their pelvic floor muscles . It is often recommended for women dealing with issues such as urinary incontinence, postpartum recovery, but it can also work for you if you are simply wanting to improve your pelvic floor health.

In the comfort of your own home you are able to work towards proper engagement of your pelvic floor muscles through interactive biofeedback exercises and games, The device gives you feedback on contraction quality, endurance, strength, speed, and control. You are able to train your pelvic floor, see progress, AND you are able to do it discreetly.

How it Works:

  • Device: The Perifit itself is a small, insertable pelvic floor trainer equipped with sensors that measure the contraction and relaxation of pelvic floor muscles.

  • App Integration: It connects via Bluetooth to a smartphone app that offers a variety of guided exercises and games. The app visualizes muscle activity in real time, allowing users to control gameplay with their pelvic contractions.

  • Biofeedback: The device provides biofeedback, showing users how effectively they are contracting and releasing the pelvic muscles, which helps in improving muscle strength and coordination over time.

Key Benefits:

  • Pelvic Floor Strengthening: Helps with issues like urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, or pain during intercourse.

  • Postpartum Recovery: Assists in the recovery of pelvic muscles after childbirth.

  • Motivation and Fun: The gaming aspect makes the process engaging, encouraging regular use and better results.

  • Personalized Training: The app adjusts exercises based on individual muscle strength and progress.
